At both the federal and state levels, India uses a bicameral structure. The Legislative Assembly, also known as the Vidhan Sabha, and the Legislative Council, also known as the Vidhan Parishad, are the two branches of the state legislature under this system. Through assembly elections, the public directly elects the Legislative Assembly’s members. The Legislative Assembly must pass a special resolution in order to establish or dissolve the Vidhan Parishad, or Legislative Council, which is a permanent body.
